Carroll Township: Configurations of roundabouts discussed

Kristen Stagg/Staff Reporter

During the Carroll Township board of supervisors work session on May 6, discussion centered on three main topics to be considered at next week's regular board meeting: location of the roundabout proposed for Siddonsburg and Ore Bank Roads, the traffic impact study for Northern's Middle and Elementary School campus, and the proposed zoning amendment for property located along US Rt. 15 between Golf Course and Glenwood Roads.

The Comprehensive Plan's goals and issues also will be discussed at the regular board meeting on May 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Roundabout on Siddonsburg and Ore Bank
When presenting possible configurations for the roundabout on west Siddonsburg Road and Ore Bank Road, township engineer Phil Brath repeated what he shared with the Transportation Committee May 1 in determining the best location. Brath said PennDOT wants the “legs” of the roundabout to be as close to 90 degrees as possible to “slow everything down” instead of allowing traffic to “slip through” at high speeds. Brath presented three configurations, of which he recommended one that wasn't as close to the Inch property, wouldn't require relocation driveways or purchase of properties, but might require relocation of a Dillsburg Area Authority pressure valve.

Wellsville Borough: Funds may be available for new restrooms

Carolyn Hoffman/Staff Reporter

Wellsville Borough may have found an answer to how the town could pay for building restrooms in the town park. Engineering firm KPI located a $250,000 grant possibility, through CFA, the commonwealth financing authority, and the borough council gave KPI the go-ahead to apply for the funds. Unlike some grants that have a matching requirement that is still too large for Wellsville's small annual budget, this one had a match of just 15%.

The match for the full amount would be $37,500, and the borough reported having $40,000 from another grant that could cover the needed funds. The deadline for the grant application, which KPI will write, was said to be the end of May. No word was available at the May 6 council meeting about when the funds might be awarded.
