Five Republican candidates running for Dawn Keefer’s District 92 York County State Representative seat took to the debate stage last week.

Those candidates are:
Holly Kelley, Dillsburg Borough
Marc Anderson, Carroll Township
Matthew Davis, Dover Township
Chris Wyatt, Carroll Township
Zachary Kile, Warrington Township

In front of a more than a hundred people at Red Land High School, the five candidates courted voters by discussing issues rang- ing from school choice to balancing a state budget to election integrity.

“We must clean the voter rolls, we’ve seen that people haven’t been taken off that passed away or moved,” Holly Kelley said.
The candidates all appeared to be in agreement with each others statements in regards to restoring faith in the electoral process.

“The first thing we need to do is get back to election day. The Democratic party has used COVID as a means to corrupt our elections,” Marc Anderson said.

“If you have to present an ID to buy a gun, buy alcohol or check my 12- year-old’s library book, asking someone to present their ID is not unreasonable,” Zachary Kyle said.

Washington Township

Board seeks to limit weight on Cabin Hollow Road

Carolyn Hoffman/Staff Reporter

Franklin Township is spearheading a move that requires approval from three other municipalities to restrict truck traffic along Old Cabin Hollow Road. The move is sought in part because of the condition of the one-lane bridge and the sharp turn there but also because the road is not designed for or wide enough for the amount and weight of trucks found to be moving along the road.

The road also runs through sections of Warrington and Carroll townships and Franklintown Borough. So far, Franklintown has agreed, and Carroll also agreed but wanted the limit to be for three-axle trucks and above, apparently because that municipality felt that limit would be easier to enforce, while also allowing box trucks on the road.
As of the March 13 meeting, no word was yet received from Warrington.

Also of concern is that a mirror placed to alert drivers of oncoming traffic “keeps getting blown over” by the wind. Supervisors will also look into a drainage issue along the road. Also mentioned was truck traffic competing with farm equipment, especially as farm equipment is getting ever larger and doesn't always fit on the roads anymore. Combined with speeding tractor trailers, the situation was said to be dangerous.

As each senior opened their capsule, one at a time, many of the students started laughing. Items inside were lists of friends, their favorite candy bar, a favorite fast food restaurant and when they got to high school whether they would ride the bus or drive a car.
