All class reunion to be held at RoundTop

The Northern High School Alumni Association is hosting its first annual Roundup at RoundTop, an all-class reunion at Roundtop Mountain Resort on June 20 at 6 p.m.

“Roundup at Roundtop is our first major fundraiser so we’re very excited about that,” NHSAA Member-atlarge, Toni Shearer, 52, said. “We are bringing to the community a summer night of music, food, and fun. Northern High School is very near and dear to my heart as well as those of us who are on the board. [The] 1970s, 1980s [classes] were a very close-knit group and it’s just something we’ve been able to continue to perpetuate, which has been a lot of fun. We’re looking forward to making this our kickoff.”

Anyone can attend, and 100% of the proceeds go toward scholastic awards given to graduating NHS seniors. The scholarship categories include business and mathmatics, in memory of Patricia Eckman; education; fine arts, in memory of Richard Fyler; science, in memory of Ned F. Kistler; vo-tech and a general scholarship.

The event will feature music from Into the Spin, which features former NHS music teacher Doug Riley along with acoustics from Donna Eyler, who graduated in 1985. Shearer says they hope to recruit different bands to perform each year. It will also include a cash bar, s’mores and a silent auction, which Shearer says has “everything for the gardener up to the sports enthusiasts and around-the-town gift cards.”

Wind and rain cause damage

High winds and rain in Monaghan Township on July 2 uprooted trees, sheared off a barn roof and collapsed utility lines. Five trees fell on a property in the 300-block of South York Road. On Locust Lane a tree crashed through the roof of a house and more than 15 trees were leveled on farms nearby.

District 14 banner returns to Dillsburg

Andy Sandrik

Dillsburg Youth Baseball has ended its championship drought in the Little League District 14 Tournament.

The league was able to do so with a little help from its friends.

Eight players from the DYB and five from South Middleton combined to form an Intermediate (50/70) squad to compete at districts, and those players overcame an early unfamiliarity with each other tow in the tournament with a 4-0 record. DSM (DillsburgSouth Middleton) conquered the district field by logging victories over Northeastern (9-1), Carlisle (13-4), Southern York County (10-9) and Northeastern (11-3) again in the championship game.
