New temporary speed bump installed on Gettysburg Street becomes the talk of the town.

Speed bumps in borough draw swift reaction

The temporary installation of two speed bumps has brought more excitement to the residents of Gettysburg Street than they’ve had in a long time.

“I love it,” Gettysburg Street resident Dave Thompson said. “People that come and go through town here don’t know how to do 20 to 25 miles per hour. It’s unbelievable, I mean, about a week ago the cops were really watching this stop sign at Second and Gettysburg and, within about a half an hour, they got six people.”

The first speed bump was installed more than a week ago close to Second Street, and the second bump was put in on June 11, just past Beaver Street.

The installation decision was made by popular demand of the citizens living on the street, Dillsburg Borough Councilman Isaac Tucker said. The borough decided to act, leaving most people who live on the street very “excited,” he said.

Driver hits, breaks utility poles

On Thursday evening, June 6, a driver lost control of his car on Camp Ground Road, hitting boulders and breaking two utility poles. A transformer and wires landed on top of the vehicle.

Brian Weimer, 42, of Franklin Township, was taken to Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital. The accident is being investigated as a possible DUI, according to Carroll Township police.

DYB crowns Minors, Hybrid champs

Undefeated champions.

That's what Giant Foods can call itself after winning Dillsburg Youth Baseball's Minors Division championship last weekend. It's tough to go unbeaten over the course of a baseball season, but Giant accomplished just that after wrapping up the DYB postseason with a 7-0 victory over Keystone Fieldhouse in the semifinals and an 8-2 victory over Colgan & Associates in the title game.
