PennDOT to repair, pave one-mile section of Rt. 15

____ The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will begin work Sunday night, April 15 to repair and resurface a one-mile section of U.S. 15 in Upper Allen Township from just north of the Lisburn Road interchange to south of the I-76, Pa. Turnpike interchange, including the on and off ramps within the Rt. 114 interchange for Bowmansdale.
____The $3,090,015 contract was awarded to H&K Group, Inc., of Skippack, Montgomery County, and includes accelerated concrete patching and spall repairs, drainage work, removal of the thin layer of Novachip surface and replacement with a 4.5-inch Superpave asphalt overlay, guiderail replacement, and new signs and pavement markings. Work under this construction contract is scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2018.

A firefighter extinguishes the last of the smoldering embers of a house fire in the 900 block of West Trindle Road just before 4 a.m. Friday morning. Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from the back of the house. More than a dozen firefighters responded and quickly got the fire under control. No one was injured. The cause has not been determined.

Board votes to donate to Holy Spirit EMS

 Residents may subscribe for membership now

____After much debate and public discussion, Carroll Township Board of Supervisors on April 9 unanimously approved a donation of $16,000 a year to Holy Spirit Ambulance Service. In return, HSAS will accept membership subscriptions for transport service to the hospital at a rate of $85 for single residents and $100 per family. Subscriptions can be obtained online or sent in by mail. Information was posted on the township’s website on April 10.
____“We don’t like it, but feel we have no other choice,” Chairman Andy Ritter said. Supervisors Bruce Trostle, Kelley Moyer-Schwille and Brian Schmick all agreed they felt “coerced” and “strong-armed” into this decision.

Starliper posts top U.S. 5k

____Testing her endurance over a familiar 5000-meter distance - but this time on the track - Marlee Starliper clocked a nation-leading girls high school time of 16:39.68 last Friday night.
____The Northern H.S. sophomore ran unattached in the Sam Howell Invitational held at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium finishing in second place. In a field of 26 runners (25 collegians) in the seeded 5k, Starliper held the lead or ran in the front pack for most of the race before being passed by Princeton junior Allie Klimkiewicz. Klimkiewicz won the race in 16:38.97. Melia Chittenden of Princeton was third (16:45.87), Lillian Anderson of Dartmouth placed fourth (16:50.85) and Brianna O'Brien clocked 16:57.09 in fifth place. Cack Ferrell set the meet record of 16:05.52 for Princeton back in 2006.

Lady Polar Bears win again

____Battling a scrappy Lower Dauphin H.S. team and cold temps on Tuesday, April 10, the Northern H.S. Girls Lacrosse team scored a 9-8 double overtime victory over the Lady Falcons. In the non-Division match, the Lady Polar Bears, who earned their fifth win against three losses, fought back from a four-goal deficit to take the lead before the deadlock in regulation. Northern finally clinched it in the second overtime on a goal by Gillian Davis.
