Merry Christmas
By Hunter Fell
December 23, 2010
In honor of this celebrated week, I will quote some celebrities that relay my feelings on gifts, decorations, and the meaning of Christmas.
Gifts:
“Nothing's as mean as giving a little child something useful for Christmas.” ~ Kin Hubbard, American Humorist and Writer
You know this to be true if you’ve ever gotten socks for Christmas!
“…There is only one fruitcake in the entire world, and people keep sending it to each other.” ~ Johnny Carson, American television host and comedian
What is in fruit cake anyway? If you know, please email me.
Decorations:
“Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of children, they are all 30 feet tall.” ~ The Merry Book of Christmas, Larry Wilde, Humorist, motivational speaker, author
NOT TRUE! We had an 18” tree while traveling in our RV and none of us thought it was 30 feet tall!
Meaning:
“The way you spend Christmas is far more important than how much.” Henry David Thoreau, American author, poet, and philosopher
“How could it be so? It came without ribbons! It came without tags! It came without packages, boxes or bags!” And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! “Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more!” ~ Theodor (Dr. Seuss) Geisel, American writer and cartoonist
This is one of my all time favorite Christmas movies/books and it summarizes the reality that the true Christmas spirit is NOT (or should not be) dependent on the gifts and decorations of the season.
“There has been only one Christmas - the rest are anniversaries”. ~ W.J. Cameron
Happy birthday Jesus! At last, the REAL meaning of Christmas.
“At Christmas, all roads lead home.” ~ Marjorie Holmes, award-winning author
Are you going to see family this Christmas? I am, and can’t wait!
“I like Christmas!” ~ Hunter Fell, writer for Homeschool View, extremely handsome, awesome, and all around modest guy
Hey that’s me!
Christmas comes only once a year, but doesn’t it seem that everyone is a whole lot nicer during this season? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the world would repeat Charles Dickens, author of “A Christmas Carol”, in saying, “I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year”.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! |
