Snow and sleet from a massive winter snow storm, affecting three dozen states, covers South Baltimore Street on Sunday.

Largest snow storm of the season pelts Dillsburg with snow, sleet; hiker rescued

The largest snow storm of this winter, part of a massive system affecting three dozen states, hit the Dillsburg area early Sunday morning and continued throughout the day, sometimes as heavy as two inches of snow per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

However, 6-12 inches of snow accumulation would have been greater if periods of sleeting did not pack down the snow in the late morning, early afternoon hours in many Central PA locations.

Although it made the roads more treacherous, the sleet served as a buffer from the high winds and prevented drifting, Carroll Township Manager Brandon Slatt said on Tuesday. “The last round of sleet helped to contain the snow and prevented drifting onto the roads,” he said. Slatt, who traveled with the township road crew during the Sunday storm and again on Monday said that although he noticed some damaged mailboxes throughout the township, the damage came from heavy snow and not ice. Although he did not stop to measure the snow, he estimated that the accumulation was about a foot high.

In addition to himself, the road crew, consisting of Bruce Patton, Paul Kingand Mike Cramer, began plowing the snow around 2 a.m. Sunday morning and continued until the early hours of Monday morning. The crew went home shortly after midnight and Slatt was back in his office on Monday.

Comp plan passes 3-2

By Kristen Stagg

At the regular meeting of the Carroll Township supervisors on Jan. 12, the board voted 3-2 to approve Resolution 2026-09 adopt- ing the Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan of Oct. 2025. Sheila Covert, Brent Sailhamer, and Frank Setlak approved with Dave Bush and Libby Loudenslager opposed.

During the discussion that preceded the vote, Bush voiced concerns that the plan “gives the image that the township condones things going on in the area that it doesn't approve of,” adding, “the book could be used inappropriately to get support.”

At their Dec. 1 work session, Carroll Township supervisor Kelly Wall asked chairman Brent Sailhamer and fellow supervisors Dave Bush and Libby Loudenslager if they had any questions about the employment agreements for Carroll Township Police staff that will be voted on at their regular Dec. 8 meeting.

Wall thanked Wargo for making unspecified changes to his new employment agreement. Wargo said he'd been discussing it with the township since April. He requested that supervisors promote Sgt. Michael Lohr to Lieutenant; and officers David McCoy and John Shapley III be promoted to Sergeant, all to take effect Jan. 5, 2026.
