Monaghan Township: New facilities discussed
Carolyn Hoffman/Staff Reporter
Monaghan Township continues to work towards building new facilities on its Mt. Pleasant land. A public workshop meeting on Friday, June 14, from 9-11 a.m. will look at an updated site plan for the three-building solution, which was found to be cheaper than one or two buildings.
Currently, the office building is planned for 3,500 sq. ft and will include offices, meeting room, kitchen, restrooms, file room and a small conference room. The new draft will also show a new location for a driveway in and out of the site. The driveway off Mt. Airy Road will remain, but access from S. York Road will be moved further down the hill where traffic visibility is better. The current buildings will remain in use during construction but will be demolished afterwards. If all goes well, completion of the project will be by the end of December 2025.

The center will be divided into three sections. One will be for local artists of all ages to display works for exhibit and sale. There will be interactive art activities. Artists will work on projects and be available to explain and demonstrate skills.
The second section will focus on the History of Dillsburg featuring artifacts, events and individuals that had an impact in the area. Examples include the Williams Grove carousel story and display, the narration of the Stearman bi-plane used in WW II training films, a spot featuring Thomas Edison who visited Dillsburg in hopes to invest in an ore mine and a presentation on timekeeping, showing a local clockmaker.

Dillsburg Borough: New facilities discussed
Mary Lou Bytof/Staff Reporter
Dillsburg area residents have seen the community change greatly in the past 20 years. More housing developments and new warehouses have put a strain on our roads, schools and emergency services. Now that Dillsburg Borough and adjacent Carroll Township has joined forces to create the Northern York County Regional Comprehensive plan, residents can make a difference by participating in the first step of the plan – a public opinion survey.
On Tuesday, June 11, the Dillsburg Borough Council listened to a presentation by Panjay Jobanputra, AICP, project manager from Simone-Collins, who described the scope of the project and emphasized the importance of gathering adequate data from the online survey. It can be accessed on the borough and township websites (dillsburg.com and carrolltownship.com).
“At times, Route 15 is a parking lot,” Council President Matt Fawber said.

Turney chosen top ten travel award
Megan Ingraham/Intern Reporter
After seven years of making the list of the top 50 travel agents in Jamaica, Jillian Turney never expected her name to appear in the top ten of this year. Turney is a Jamaica specialist with Ultra Tech Travel and has traveled to the island over 65 times. Her award is a big accomplishment, provided that she was against 48,000 agents and agencies from across the world. Turney explained how the top ten are usually larger agencies that book groups. Being a singular agent and booking for all types of people and not only large groups, it makes her award even more meaningful.
The Jamaican Tourism Board hosts an award banquet every year, featuring agents from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and more. Turney has attended the past few ceremonies, but this one was a little bit more special. Being a travel agent wasn’t Turney’s original career plan, she was ten years out of high school as a single mom with a desire to travel. She decided to return to school and earn her travel agent certifications. Turney explained, “I love travel and wanted to live out the passion and also found a talent within that.” She wants people to see the world and to experience the love of travel as well.

Dillsburg Youth Baseball: All-Stars kick off postseason
Andy Sandrik/Dillsburg Banner
It's that time of year when Little League baseball players trade in the uniforms sporting the names of local businesses to the ones bearing just one name: Dillsburg.
As always seems to be the case for Dillsburg Youth Baseball, expectations are high for the organization as its All-Star teams enter District 14 Tournament play this week. Those lofty expectations, of course, come after last year's crop of 2023 All-Stars captured district titles at the 8-10 and 11-12 level.
Below is a team-by-team look at the DYB All-Star squads looking to make noise this postseason:
8-10 All-Stars
Dillsburg will be looking to duplicate its success from last season, when it captured the District 14 championship banner.
The team will be aiming to get the job done with a roster that includes Andrew Fronk, Caden Heisey, Cameron Adams, Cameron Witmer, Carter Cicero, Greyson Janosko, Harvey Cummings, Kaeden Jacobs, Luca Romano, Myles Smith, Nick Espenshade, and Ryker Mcdade.
Dillsburg will compete in District 14 East Pool Play against the likes of SYC, Northeastern, and Dallastown, with the Top 3 teams advancing to compete in the double-elimination bracket.
