School Board: Board retains Stock & Leader
Mary Lou Bytof/Staff Reporter
After listening to a few people ask the board to retain the services of attorneys Stock and Leader, the Northern York County School Board on May 21 voted to renew the contract with the York County law firm.
In a roll call vote, the board voted to retain the firm for the 2024-5 fiscal year. Board members Paul Miller, Gerald Schwille and Gregory Weir cast dissenting votes.
Before the recognition of the public and the vote, District Superintendent Steven Kirkpatrick said that the district had received “lots of emails” regarding the upcoming vote for the solicitor.
“Transparency with the community is our top priority,” he announced after he gave a brief background on recent firms that have worked as solicitors for the district.
In December 2022, the board hired Stock and Leader, who has served as district solicitor since then. Before that, from 2015 to 2022, Bob Frankhouser served as the district solicitor through some tough years, such as during the COVID shutdown and mitigation period.

Washington Township: Auditor’s pay bumps up $8 more an hour
Carolyn Hoffman/Staff Reporter
Washington Township supervisors approved a new resolution raising the elected auditors' pay from $10 per hour to $18 per hour. The move was a recommendation from the PA State Association of Township Supervisors.
Also approved was a resolution supporting the semi-quincentennial of the U.S. when we celebrate the 250th anniversary of Independence Day in 2026.
The application from Byron Waggoner to transfer a building right from one property to another neighboring property was approved.
Agriculture security applications for this year must be received in the township office by June 1.
Supervisors approved the bid of $21,546.40 from Russell Standard for fog sealing on Bermudian Church Road. However, after hearing the bid price for seal coating, supervisors decided to do the work themselves, after first investigating if they could rent equipment for the work.
