Sunny, pleasant weather throuhout the day attracted fairgoers to this year's PickleFest.
More than 50 vendors lined both sides of Greenbriar Lane from Harrisburg Pike to Baltimore Street from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 for the annual celebration organized by the Dillsburg Community Association

Carroll Township: Fire company's costs, funding discussed

During the Carroll Township board meeting on May 13, supervisors Libby Loudenslager and Brent Sailhamer were absent and Darrell Dethlefs sat in for Michael Pykosh as solicitor. In addition, supervisor Tim Kelly had to leave as soon as voting finished in order to resume his medical leave, which he announced will last approxiamtely three months.
Out of consideration for Kelly's medical situation, the agenda was re-ordered so that all voting items would take place up-front, with items just for discussion to conclude the meeting.
Fire company
Keith Kuykendall filled in got Northern York County Fire an Rescue chief Hector Morales. After giving a run-down of the month's calls, Kuykendall responded to supervisor Kelly Wall's question about the fire company's steering committee discussion for warehouses to make monthly or annual contributions for emergency services rather than one lump sum. Kuykendall said they discussed it, but that no decision has been made.

Dillsburg Borough: Residents ask for assistance

Dillsburg and Carroll Township residents attended the Dillsburg Borough Counncil meeting following a hearing on the Winfield rezoning issue to voice their concerns about yet another development coming to the area.
Residnets living near the proposed Stoney Run Village in Carroll Township told the board that they had the following issues with the construction and design of the proposed 40 townhomes that the developer wants to construct in the township between the Pheasent Ridge Development in Dillsburg and Windy Heights also in the township.

Classical education is at its core

Piano and composition instructor Andrey Lubimtsev has been teaching music for over 25 years. He is the owner of Keystone Music Academy, 3705 Trindle Rd., Camp Hill, where a doxen treachers provide musical instruction in stringed instruments, woodwinds, brass, piano, guitar, banjo, mandlin, vocal performance and more.
Orignally from Russia, Lubimstevbegan studying piano at the age of eight at Irkutsk Central Music School. "It was basically a professional education at an early age," he said. He continued his studies at Irkutsk Colllege of Music and Art with choir conducting as his primary concentraion and piano as his secondary. After graduating, Lubimtsev worked with vocal groups and choirs while teachinng piano, playing in a band and doing recordings as sound engineer. His wife, an English language professor, was an interpreter during the summer months and was invited to the U.S. by an American family traveling in Sisberia over the summer. The Lubimtsev's left Russia for the U.S. just as the Soviet coup started. Their plan was to only stay for six months so that Lubimtsev could work to finance studio equipment to take back home to Russia for the purposes of creating his own recording studio.

Northern Girls Lacrosse: Northern closes 2024 season

Junior Varsity goalie Ella Mowery and teammates celebrate her 100th save after the game against Cumberland Valley
Catching up with lacrosse scores, on Wednesday, May 8, the host Northern H.S. varsity girls' lacrosse team (5-13) ended the regular seaon in style with a 13-7 win over Chambersburg H.S. On Monday, May 6, Cumberland Valley defeated the host Lady Polar Bears, 21-6. At State College Area H.S. on Thursday, May 2, the hosts were not gracious in their 21-1 win over Northern. On Tuesday, April 30, the host Lady Polar Bears defeated Mechanicsburg 13-11.

Schools hold spring concerts

Concert band, wind ensemble and orchestra from the high school and middle school held their spring concerts in the high school auditourium April 25 and April 30.
They are under the direction of Northern High School Band Director, Andrew Sheffer, High and Middle School Orchestra Director, Geneva Sheffer and Middle School Band Director Chad McCartney.

Dillsburg Youth Baseball: Division races nearly settled

The quest to become Dillsburg Youth Baseball's town-ball champion is nearly a relaity for three teams, as the organization is set to play its regular season games of the spring.
Ensor & Sowers, a winner of 10 straight games is a lock to win the Hubrid Division, while Upward Carpentry holds a comfortable lead in the Minors Division. As for the Intermediate Division, Next Level Sports and S. Brosius Co. are a couple of seven-win teams hopeful to claim the title.
Teams are hoping for dryer weatheras play is scheduled to resume this week.
