School Board Recognition Month

Kristen Stagg/Staff Reporter

At the board's work session on Feb. 5, Carroll Twp. supervisors were told seven individuals responded to their request for proposal for a planner for the Comprehensive Plan revision. According to township manager Brandon Slatt, the zoning board and planning commission recommended appointing Simone Collins. Slatt says Collins will be voted on by Dillsburg Borough at their Feb. 14 meeting, and recommended supervisors vote on her appointment at their Feb. 12 regular board meeting.

In other business to be considered at next week's meeting, the lowest bid for April 2024-March 2027 mowing seasons was submitted by Zed Property Services, LLC. According to Slatt, they quoted $168 per mowing of the township building and $320 per mowing of Chestnut Park.

The township will continue to accept responses to their RFP for township engineer through Feb. 16 as advertised.
Township engineer Phil Brath recommends releasing some surety funds for Phases I-III of Fieldstone Crest. Although the developer requested 100% surety reduction, Brath recommended retaining approximately double the maintenance bond amount in case of future need.

NYCAPS seeks funds to restore historic needlework

Submitted by NYCHAPS

Pictured is the embroidered mourning needlework sampler made sometime after the deaths of Leonard Eichelberger and his wife Catherine Elizabeth Smyser Eichelberger.

Many drive past Dill's Tavern on the main street of Dillsburg or pass it with a glance on Rt. 15. Passerbys can easily see and recognize the efforts the Northern York County Historical Preservation Society is making to preserve and share local history with the community, as they are easily visible. Fewer have seen the tangible legacies that are stored within the walls of the Maple Shade barn, which is also part of NYCHÅPs.

One item is an embroidered mourning needlework sampler made sometime after the deaths of Leonard Eichelberger and his wife Catherine Elizabeth Smyser Eichelberger. The memorial picture reads: “In memory of Leonard Eichelberger who died 16 of February 1811 aged 61 years and Elizabeth Eichelberger who died 26 January 1817 aged 65 years”.

Postseason around the corner as 20-0 Polar Bears blank Warriors

Joe Guty/Dillsburg Banner

After taking a commanding 27-6 halftime lead, the Northern H.S. varsity girls basketball team recorded an easy 55- 10 win over Gettysburg Area H.S. last Friday night. The Lady Polar Bears moved to 20-0 on the season with their last regular season games slated for this Tuesday, Feb. 6 (hosting James Buchanan) and Wednesday, Feb. 7 (at Mechanicsburg).

Against Gettysburg on Senior Recognition Night, Northern opened up with a full court press that converted steals and turnovers to points.

“We don’t usually press and then go back to play man-to-man so that was our goal there to work on something different,” said head coach Lucas Zampelli. “It worked out that their four guards are similar to us, so it was something we wanted to try and don’t usually do.”
