Freedom Physical Therapy and Performance has relocated to Dillsburg Borough, 126 W. Harrisburg St., on the first floor of the EXP Realty building, in the former offices of District Justice Richard Thomas.

This new space allows “Freedom to continue serving the Dillsburg community while delivering quality care to patients in a professional and peaceful atmosphere,” said founder Dr. Scott Heltzel, DPT. Freedom first opened its doors February of 2021 at the Giant plaza.

“Freedom opened with the goal of becoming the ‘people’s choice’ for treatment of strains, sprains, aches and pains. Through comprehensive one-on-one treatments, advanced technology, highly skilled clinicians, attention to detail, and the pursuit of helping every patient achieve their goals, it is apparent from positive feedback and patient testimonials that Freedom has created a culture of excellence,” Heltzel said.

Heltzel is a certified McKenzie spine specialist, Orthopedic Specialist, and Certified Manual Therapist. He was joined by Dr. Cole Hernandez, DPT in June, 2021; Heather Brown, PTA in November, 2021, and Dr. Sarah Gillisse, DPT in August 2023.

Plan to be revealed next meeting

At the Carroll Township work session on December 4, the board of supervisors heard from Northern York County School District's architect firm regarding proposed improvements to the middle school campus. The submitted proposal is to redirect traffic flow within the school campus in addition to doing some construction. However, the school district doesn't expect anything off-site to be affected.

Supervisors disagree, saying that any changes to traffic flow on-site will more than likely have an affect on traffic entering and exiting the school site, and exacerbating what can already be a lengthy and frustrating process.

Mark Krowski of K&W Engineering requested that the traffic study be conducted simultaneously with construction, as opposed to starting construction once the study is completed. The school district had already requested a waiver for the requirement to submit separate preliminary and final land development plans.

Farmland preservation, a means to save more open space

Flames shoot in the night air from a bonfire set to praise Ullr, the Norse god of snow, in hopes of a powder-filled season during the annual Ullr Fest held Saturday, Dec. 2 at Roundtop Mountain Resort.

Anyone who's been a resident of Dillsburg for even a short amount of time can identify with the sight of a once open field suddenly being laid bare in preparation for building a development or place of business. A 2019 poll taken by the York County Agricultural Land Preservation Board revealed that 75% of the county said that they wanted more open space and more preserved land. The board originated in 1990 and preserved its first farm in 1991. Director Eric Naylor shared that the board exists to meet its citizens' request.

“We're a department within the York County government and we are funded by the county. We take their allocation and then we certify it up to the state, the department of Ag, and they match a certain percentage of the funding that the [County Board of] Commissioners give us.”

Board grants conidtional use

Kristen Stagg/Staff Reporter

After listening to nearly three hours of testimony from the project manager and traffic engineer for South Mountain Commons, Carroll Township supervisors voted 3-1 in favor of granting conditional use to York Land Development, LLC, for 941 York Road.

Dave Bush, Tim Kelly, and Brent Sailhamer over-came Kelly Wall's objection (Kelley Moyer-Schwille was absent due to illness) to grant the conditional use for a distribution center to be located on Rt. 74. Under consideration for this hearing was Lot #1, consisting of roughly 31 acres housing a 252,000 square-foot building, parking for over 80 employees, 33 loading docks, and spaces for 41 tractor-trailers.

According to the developer's attorney Charles Courtney, Lot 2 isn't part of this request. Almost 23 acres, Lot 2 is connected to Lot 1 by a small strip of land that extends behind two homes whose owners registered as objectors.

The Lady Polar Bears outscored Chambersburg in the second half by a 25-18 margin on their way to a 39-33 win. It was the third straight Tip-Off Tourney title for Northern.

Cassidy Sadler led the Lady Polar Bears with 11 points and Anna Lehman added eight. They both earned All-Tournament honors along with Siena Ondecko who added four points. Hannah Freese posted seven points followed by Addi Place (4), Delaney Moyer (3) and Tae Townsend (2). Emily Forrester, a 6-2 freshman, led Chambersburg with 10 points and 14 rebounds while Breanne Paetow had nine points and 6-3 junior center Riley Evans added five. Bartram dominates CV Kickoff Classic

Andy Sandrik/Dillsburg Banner

It's only been a matter of weeks since Cole Bartram traded in his football pads for a wrestling singlet, but already Northern's star grappler appears to be in midseason form.

The Polar Bears opened their season at the CV Kickoff Classic last weekend and Bartram wrestled strong as ever, going 4-0 with three falls to conquer the 189-pound bracket. Bartram, a two-time PIAA place-winner and Lock Haven recruit, was Northern's top finisher at the tournament, with Gabe Johnson also finding the awards stand with a third- place finish at 160 pounds.

Northern was without the services of three-time PIAA qualifier Rocco Fratelli, and without entries at the 107-, 127-, 145, and 215-pound weight classes, the Polar Bears finished 11th out of 23 squads in the team standings with 78.5 points. Council Rock South captured the team title with 202.5 points.
