Field of Honor now on display

Marie Chomicki/Dillsburg Banner

A vibrant display of 400 United States flags, including military branch flags, transformed a plain field at the Range End Driving Range into a unique veteran's week tribute.

Emily Reed, president of the Dillsburg Kiwanis welcomed the crowd to the opening ceremony of the Dillsburg Field of Honor on Saturday, Nov. 11.

The Northern High School Quartet - Christian Smacher, Nick Keilholtz, Nala Yates and Kylie Oyler - sang the national anthem and Isabella Burns and Elaina Doney formed the Color Guard and presented the colors.

Reed read “Our Flag,” a poem written in 1918 by Abijah Gill. The poem was selected by her students because they felt the American flag is the symbol of our freedom and for veterans.

Council passes balanced budget

Mary Lou Bytof/Reporter

The Dillsburg Borough Council Tuesday evening unanimously passed the 2024 final budget. The balanced budget shows a total income of $1,771,364.05, and expenses of $1,768,782.14.

After passing the budget, Councilwoman Holly Kelley commented that once again, borough residents will not be hit with any tax increase.

However, due to inflation and rising tonnage rates, Penn Waste will increase its collection rate in the first quarter of 2024 from $86 to $87.73, Borough Manager Laura Kauffman said. The trash collection company again will raise the rate in the second quarter of next year, she reported. That quarterly rate will apply from April 2024 to April 2025. Then the borough will put out bids for trash collection services, she said.
