Proposed warehouses raise residents’ concerns
Kristen Stagg/Dillsburg Banner
Two conditional use hearings in Carroll Township within the space of a week to address proposals for separate warehouse/distribution centers have residents concerned.
South Mountain Commons is the property being discussed on Thursday, Nov. 9. The 252,000 square-foot building proposed for 941 York Rd. is comprised of 33 loading docks, 41 tractor-trailer spaces, and 87 employee spaces sitting on just over 30 acres.
Sherry Sirianni is co-owner of the adjacent property at 935 York Road. She said she's long opposed warehouses being located in the residential area, and questions why the zoning was ever changed to permit industrial usage. Her opposition to warehouse/distribution centers ranges from tractor-trailer traffic and light or sound pollution, to impact on local roadways and neighborhoods.
“Warehouses don't belong in a township,” Sherry states. She suggests that warehouses be established further south on Rt. 15 “where there's no impact on neighborhoods.”
Frank Sirianni, co- owner of 935 York Road, asserts that the developer “shouldn't receive a variance to start building before they have all the necessary permits from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and PennDOT.”
According to Frank, there's “no way” construction of a warehouse would not affect the bog turtles and a trout stream naturally existing in the wetlands would not be affected. “I called DEP and Governor Shapiro's office to ask why they would even consider such a development,” he adds.

Kristen Stagg/Reporter
Just prior to the Carroll Township board of super- visors work session on Nov. 6, a special meeting was held to grant permission for the township to seek a multimodal grant from PennDOT for design and construction of a roundabout at Siddonsburg and Ore Bank roads. The grant, totaling $1,953,628 is a 70/30 split,
Resolution 2023-11 passed unanimously among all supervisors present, authorizing township manager Brandon Slatt and supervisor chairman Tim Kelly to provide all necessary documentation for a grant to be requested on the township's behalf. Although supervisor Kelly Wall participated by Zoom, there was no audible vote from her.

Olivia Goretski leaps over the Cocalico goalie, after he shot is block.
Facing Cocalico H.S. for the District III, Class 3A title last Thursday, the Northern H.S. Girls’ Soccer team simply did what they have done all year. Win. The top seeded Lady Polar Bears captured the Championship with a 3-1 victory. That also boosted their record to 21-0-1 and a trip to the PIAA State Championships. Cocalico (18-3 and #3 seed) advanced to states as well.
Northern accomplished all their scoring in the first half. Liv Goretski posted Northern’s first two goals and Sydney Waits added the third goal at 26 minutes into the contest. Waits also had one assist as did Anna Lehman and Taelyn Townsend.
Head coach Seth Lehman was understandably proud of his team’s effort and play as the Lady Polar Bears won their second-ever district title and first since 2013.
“The amount of pressure and expectations that were placed on them from the beginning of the season was huge,” said Lehman early this week. “The fact that they dealt with it all and consistently performed at a very high level is nothing short of amazing.”
Lehman added that the team chemistry is the reason why they have reached this phase of the season.
