AS I SEE IT Last ride on earth, next stop heaven
Curt Werner
For all who knew Scott McClintock, this past Sunday and Monday, July 9 and 10, has been a whirlwind. Firemen and EMS of Dillsburg and surrounding municipalities lost a great leader, but no one suffers more than the McClintock family who lost their beloved father and husband.
In three short weeks, their lives were turned upside down. Scott passed away on July 4 from pancreatic cancer.
Scott and I became friends many years ago. His sons were active in sports, especially football. Covering the games I saw the last name McClintock popping up each year. We started calling each other when a special event involved a son. At games or matches, I made sure to get photos of his kids. I especially liked photographing Joel in a wrestling match or playing linebacker on the football team. Scott would watch every game and match and record when he could.
I saw Scott often with the fire company. If he was not in command, he would be on a ladder or the roof of a burning house. I witnessed him rescuing someone in a car accident. He was always there to help and give direction. Scott had stage 4 pancreatic cancer, giving him little time to prepare for the end. The word about Scott spread throughout the fire companies and public. This gave many who knew him the chance to visit him at his house. Sports teams, Carroll Township police, co-workers and firefighters from surrounding counties visited him. His wife Jamey and family were gracious in receiving the company.
Scott often held down three jobs, served many years as fire chief with Dillsburg Citizen's Hose No. 1, Northern York County Fire Rescue and with EMS Lower Allen Township. He still found time to help with community events and raise a family of seven children with his wife. He gave his all.

NYCSD hires new teachers, honors PIAA State Champs
Mary Lou Bytof
Before the Northern York County School Board members welcomed a group of newly hired teachers who will be working in the district's schools, it honored members of the Northern High School softball team. At the June 27 board meeting, the school directors called each girl and their coaches by name and gave them each a certificate to commemorate their state championship win.
“This is a super talented group,” Superintendent Steven Kirkpatrick said of the team. “They really got better and better throughout the season, and they peaked at the right time,” he added. The girls' attitude throughout the season was commendable, he said. “They were relaxed yet laser-focused on getting the job done,” he said of their playing style.
The PIAA Class 5A championship went to Northern in a 3-2 victory over Shaler Area High School at the state finals in State College earlier last month. The board also recognized some of the district's newest hires that it approved that evening. First, they recognized Nolan McArdle, the new assistant principal at Northern Middle School. McArdle comes to Northern from the nearby West Shore School District. He started his position in June.

It's more than three weeks into the Little League postseason and the two All-Star teams representing Dillsburg Youth Baseball are alive, well, and unbeaten.
And after Monday, they can also call themselves district champions. In a rare night at Krall and Ryder fields where fans got to witness both DYB's 8-10 and Majors All-Star teams play for District 14 championships, both teams came through big time.
