East York Street residents request to crackdown on traffic
Mary Lou Bytof
Three homeowners living on East York Street told Dillsburg Borough Council that traffic along their street and the adjacent Dill Alley is out of control, with motorists speeding and driving in the wrong direction in the alley.
At Tuesday's council meeting, John Reed said his house was hit at least three times in recent years. A year ago, two trucks knocked down his rain spout, he said. A few years ago, a teenage girl scraped the side of his house with her car.
"I own the red brick house; that's the one cars don't like. It's costing me money to pay for that [repairs]," Reed said.
Andrea Brillhart asked the council why there are no speed limit signs on East York Street. Although she has seen some police enforcement on her street, she said people are constantly going the wrong way on Dill Alley.
"I do not see a lot of enforcement on Dill Alley at all," she said. Kids ride their bikes in the alley and turn around in the firehouse parking lot. They also travel the alley to get to the ball fields, she said.
