National Night Out brings in families and community groups for evening of fun

Mary Lou Bytof

Residents of Dillsburg and neighboring townships once again gathered at Logan Park Tuesday to enjoy a sunny evening of good food, live music, raffles and activities for all ages.

Although there was no official count of attendees at the community event, workers at the food tent estimated that they served the picnic fare to about 2,500 people.

“We began serving the food at 5 p.m., and the line did not start to die down until 7 o’clock,” Carroll Township Secretary Faye Romberger said.

Event organizer and Carroll Township Police Officer John Shapley said he was impressed with the turnout from the community and the number of people who volunteered their services. He said he first wanted to thank the Dillsburg, Carroll and Monaghan Township road crews for the work they did to prepare for the festivities. He also gave a shout-out to the members of the Kiwanis Club for volunteering to work at the event.

Dillsburg 7-8 all-stars claim CBT crown

Andy Sandrik

Baseball season officially came to an end for Dillsburg Youth Baseball last week, but not before the organization added another District 14 championship banner to its collection.

Dillsburg's 7-8 Clarence Boyd Tournament team capped off an undefeated run through the postseason by defeating Dallastown 3-1 in the CBT title game on Thursday evening. Brad Beck's squad, which outscored opponents by a 48-7 margin, concludes the season with a 6-0 record.

Pitching wins championships, and Dillsburg had plenty of arms to get the job done. Dillsburg's staff worked 22 innings and struck out 55 batters, allowing just six hits and holding opponents to a .082 batting average. They threw three no-hitters during their run.
