Excessive water run-off brought three residents to the May 6 Wellsville Borough Council meeting to ask for help. They reported that since the Wellsville Elementary School was expanded, the situation has grown exponentially worse.
The areas on York Street have apparently always tended towards this problem in wet years, but since the school expansion, trees are being hollowed out and a sewer line is now sticking out by three or four feet, they said. They brought photos and videos showing the speed and depth of the run-off.
The issue is not Wellsville’s to fix, apparently, as most of the situation appears to originate inWarrington Township, crosses into Wellsville and ends up on a PennDOT road. Currently, most of the water comes out of one pipe with such force that it moves rock and brick.Wellsville did agree to have its engineer, KPI, look at the situation and provide a sense of what it might take to ameliorate the problem. Eventually, both municipalities and PennDOT will need to work on or approve a solution.
In other action at the session, a lawyer for the resident of 41 Chestnut Street asked for an extension to the May 6 deadline to clean up his home. He reported that much work has already been done but agreed that more is needed. The lawyer wanted an extension through August, but the borough gave him another 30 days, withCouncil President Darryl Boyd noting that they wanted to see continual progresson the site. Council indicated it is not willing to lift the condemnation but is willing to work with the resident.
