Bids for road materials were opened at awarded at the April 15 meeting of Washington Township’s supervisors.
Winning bidders were Vulcan Material Group forstone, Hammacker East for liquid asphalt, York Materials Group for paving materials and Edris Oil for heating fuel.
York Materials and Edris Oil were the only bidders for the paving materials and heating fuel. In other action at the session, it was reported that no underground tank was found during a search at the former KralltownElementary School.
Spring cleanup will be April 24, 25 and 27, with the times of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.on the April 24 and 25 and 7a.m. to 11a.m. on the April 27. The Saturday date is a first – and a trial to see if itis more convenient for residents.
Bears roll on to Shippensburg

Following some strong performances at the Arctic Blast Invitational last week, Northern H.S. Track and Field athletes will get a sneak preview of districts this weekend at the 93rd Annual Jack Roddick/Shippensburg University H.S. Invitational. The Shippensburg meet - held at Seth Grove Stadium and the site of the District III and PIAA State Championships—always has many District III athletes represented and the competition will reflect that.
A total of 16 teams competed under sunny skies and temps in the low 70s at the Arctic Blast Invitational. Meredith Engle clocked 16.35 in the prelims of the 100 Meter Hurdles and then captured the finals in 15.86. Engle also won the Long Jump with a leap of 17-1.25. Winning the 1600 Meter Run, Marlee Starliper picked up where she left off after a record-breaking indoor season. Starliper’s effort and focus was on a potential state record run, and while not achieved, still resulted in a Pennsylvania state leading time of 4:49.37. For the boys team, Chris Barrett launched a 184-6 to win the Javelin. Caleb Palmer got close to 20 feet in the Long Jump as he captured the event with a 19-10.5 mark. Michael Ginder led all competition in the Pole Vault with a winning mark of 13-6.
Girls Meet results: 100 Meter Dash: Emily McKenzie – seventh place in 13.68; Cara Klinger –19th place in 14.21; and BriHertz – 21st place in 14.37.
