Somber salute: Motorcade honors slain deputy U.S. marshal

</span>A public memorial service was held for slain Deputy U.S. Marshal Christopher David Hill at the Giant Center on Thursday, Jan. 25.
</span>Hill, 45, was shot and killed on Thursday, Jan. 18 while serving a warrant in Harrisburg's Allison Hill neighborhood.
The lengthy motorcade in honor of Hill drew thousands of police officers, emergency responders and onlookers as it made its way from the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, Linglestown Road, Susquehanna Township, to the Giant Center in Hershey on Thursday, Jan. 25.

Lady Bears to face Big Spring

</span>Highly motivated to continue their winning ways, the Northern H.S. Girls Varsity Basketball team travels to face Big Spring H.S. this Friday, Feb. 2. On Feb. 6, Northern is slated to host Mechanicsburg H.S. on Senior Night and regular season-finale game.
</span>The Lady Polar Bears take a 7-4 Mid Penn Colonial Division record and 12-7 overall mark to Newville.
</span>Northern played James Buchanan H.S. on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and had historic results. The 41-33 victory gave the Lady Polar Bears their first winning record in the league since 1996 and first overall winning record since 2006. Corrina and Cassie Smith posted 12 points apiece and Allie French added nine points. Kyra Gerber scored eight points. The Lady Rockets were led by Cassie Martin (8) and Maggie Stranoet (6). Northern was 68.4 percent from the free throw line against the host's 50 percent.
