By Marie Chomicki

_</span>A childrens' birthday party was disrupted and a family displaced after a fire broke out in a rear second floor bedroom Friday afternoon Jan. 12 in the 200 block of E. Main St., Mechanicsburg.
</span>"Everyone was able to get out safely," Fire Chief Gary Ness, Washington Fire Company, said. "The fire was confined to that room and called in by the tenants."

Polar Bears sink Greyhounds

By Joe Guty

</span>Mid Penn Colonial Division victories over Shippensburg H.S. highlighted last week's meets for the Northern H.S. Swimming and Diving teams. On Tuesday, Jan. 9, the host Northern Girls team defeated the rival Lady Greyhounds 101-84 while the Polar Bear Boys team won a nail biter, 93-92. A trademark for Northern this season is their depth and it played out once again after they avenged a bitter loss to Ship last season. In this year's contest, Ship won 7 of 12 girls events and 8 of 12 boys events, but it was the Polar Bears' second through fifth places that made the difference.
</span>“What a team effort,” said an elated Head Coach Bill Resser. “Every single point mattered. The fact that they had a few key disqualifications, and we had zero, had an impact.”
