Wine customers go ‘live’ with Kathie Lee at state store grand opening

___ Touting her new line of wines, entertainer Kathie Lee Gifford made a stop at the new Fine Wine and Good Spirits Premium Collection Store at the Capital City Mall last week to greet fans who purchased a bottle.
Born in France to parents who raised her in the European tradition of savoring wine as “an expression of family life,” Gifford said it was a natural progression in her varied line of work to add wine entrepreneur.
“I am a 50/50 partner in this wine. This is a serious business. We are determined to keep our wines pristine and beautiful and as healthy as possible and tasty as possible and, most importantly, as affordable as possible,” Gifford said, before participating in the ribbon cutting for the opening of the new store, which offers 4,400 wines and spirits, a tasting bar and a wine specialist.
Gifford teamed up with Scheid Family Wines, of Monterey, Calif. to form GIFFT Wines, which retail at $12.99 a bottle. The same quality wine would normally sell for $40 to $60 a bottle, she said. So how can she offer hers so inexpensively? “We want to,” she said. “We don’t want it to be elite in any way.”
