A paw print signing

Gov. Tom Wolf signed a bill Wednesday that provides greater protections for animals in Pennsylvania. The bill updates and clarifies the existing animal abuse statutes and increases the penalties for abusing animals.

“I am proud to sign the Animal Abuse Statute Overhaul into effect today, strengthening the penalty for animal abuse and neglect in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” Wolf said at the signing.

Merger completion delayed

The merger between the Franklintown Fire Company and Dillsburg Citizen Hose Company has a new projected completion date of January 1, 2018. At recent meetings of all parties it was decided to extend the time needed to complete the planning and paperwork necessary for the change.

“This is due to recent events involving EMS and the proposed development of a board of directors with municipal participation and oversight,” Frank Wirth with the NYCES Steering Committee said.

According to Wirth, the current business plan is also being re-evaluated because of the possible financial impact on revenues and other aspects of operations in the new organization. The two fire companies involved will continue to train and work together as they have been for nearly a year in preparation for the merger.
