Cat to the rescue: Homeowner credits pet for saving family

A homeowner says his cat saved his family's lives after a fire broke out in his home on 30 W. Greenhouse Road, Franklin Township, Monday morning, May 15, at 2:15 a.m.
"A loud banging sound made by my cat on my bedroom door woke me up," Randy Weigel said. The room smelled hot and he could see flames coming in from under the door. The wall in the other room was on fire, flames shooting everywhere, he said.
Weigel ran into the house to get his daughter and her friend out who escaped through a bedroom window and called 911.

Lady Bears to close out 2017

The Northern H.S. Girls Lacrosse team again demonstrated some of their strong prowess last week. Starting the week with an 18-to-5 loss to Hanover’s Southwestern High School was not how the Lady Polar Bears hoped to start their four-game schedule in a five-day period.

Nevertheless, it didn’t stop Ashley Hannon from scoring three goals and Kelly Donaldson two. This effort, coupled with Mackenzie O’Haver’s 14 saves and many controlled turnovers by Melissa Stough, Grace Isenberg, Katie Hersch, Gillian Davis, Olivia Keyser, Mackenzie Hammel, Aunna Rubacha and Brooke Breon certainly made the Lady Mustangs work for their win.

Northern Lacrosse seniors Kelly Donaldson, Katie Hersh and Steph Wolf were honored with parents and friends before the varsity game against Hershey at Bostic Field.
