Merger between
fire companies

The pending merger of the Dillsburg Citizens Hose and the Franklintown Fire Company became the subject of discussion at the March Supervisor’s meeting in Franklin Township.
Mike Whitzel, Franklintown fire chief, was questioned at length about the status of the merger after a recent tied vote of the joint committees with only eight of the 28 members present. The vote of those present at the meeting was tied at four to four and no action was taken on the resolution. Whitzel expressed his disappointment at the lack of attendance.
Supervisor Michael Ryan was concerned there might be some problem and wants to see where the money is going and why there is no business plan being offered. He is concerned whether there is a cost savings to the township with this merger. He said he “wants to see a report of fund expenditures before the expansion happens.” Whitzel stated he just received the auditor’s report for 2016 showing expenditures two weeks ago and would get copies out to the township as they do each year. Ryan was not aware this was done annually.
