Bridge opening still on hold
Guardrail has wrong finish

Local residents will not be going over Dogwood Run and through the woods to Grandma’s house for Christmas this year. At least not over the Spring Lane Road bridge. The project completion date has now been moved into January as reported by Carroll Township engineer Todd Stager during the December 14 township meeting.

 

Rearend Collision on rt 74

A rearend collision disabled two vehicles on Carlisle Road, Warrington Township Friday, December 11 at 4:04 p.m. Wellsville Fire Company, fire police and Pa State Police were on the scene. No one was transported to the hospital. In photo, rescue crews work to disconnect the battery of the SUV that hit a truck.

Church breaks
ground for new additon

____Cedar Hill Baptist Church held a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday December 13 for new additions to their existing facility at 154 Chestnut Grove Road, Dillsburg.
The project will include a sanctuary to seat 285 people, a foyer, restrooms and two classrooms.
General contractor is eciConstruction of Dillsburg. The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2016.

Polar Bears claw Big Spring

___Pack the House Night proved to be a worthy setting for the resurgent Polar Bears who edged Big Spring 34-30 last Friday night, Dec. 11. Tied at 7-7 after the first quarter, Big Spring held an 18-11 halftime lead. Northern fought back to post a 9-2 third quarter run and tie it at 20 apiece before holding off the visitors in the fourth quarter. Jack Walsh had a breakthrough night with 15 points. Scott Leitholf added nine points and Curtis Robison chipped in five points. Eric Jacobs (3) and Dominik Topper (2) completed Northern's scoring. Ryker Armond led the Bulldogs with 14 points and Peyton Bechtold added 12.
As the Banner went to press, the Polar Bears recorded another win on Tuesday, Dec. 15, as they pulled away from Waynesboro to win 57-51. Tied at 37 apiece after three quarters, the host Bears outscored the Indians 20-14 in the last quarter. Eric Jacobs led Northern with 18 points including six points from the foul line. Scott Leitholf added 16 points and Curtis Robison contributed six points. Other scorers for Northern included Jack Walsh (5), Nick Sacoman (4), Dominik Topper (4), Jared Kearns (2) and Bobby Shelly (2). Cameron Keck led the visitors with 22 points.

Lady Bears to host Shipp

____In high school girls basketball, Northern is slated to host Shippensburg this Friday night, Dec. 18. The Lady Polar Bears will follow up with non-league games against Biglerville at home on Monday, Dec. 21 and Greenwood, away, on Wednesday, Dec. 23.
Northern traveled to Milton Hershey last Saturday and the Lady Spartans made baskets early and often en route to a 50-20 win. After a 23-7 first half lead, the hosts cruised to their fourth straight win.
Abby Reeder led Northern with seven points followed by Alyssa Swartz (6), Kyra Gerber (5) and Maddie Waits (2). The hosts were paced by Aisha Freeman (14), Taya Wadsworth (14) and Atiya McDonald (12).
