Who needs Santa Claus? Mr. and Mrs. Pickle and Lil’ Dill will be on hand for family Christmas photos (bring your own camera) at Maple Shade Barn Saturdays through Dec. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

____ If you’re looking for a unique family Christmas picture for your annual photo card this year, how about a pose with Dillsburg’s most famous family – of the produce variety, that is?
____ “We have Mr. and Mrs. Pickle and Lil’ Dill here by the Christmas tree. What a photo opportunity! Who needs Santa Claus?” said Winnie Flynn, a member of the Northern York County Historical & Preservation Society and welcoming hostess of the Saturday Market at the Maple Shade Barn.
____ It’s probably safe to say that no one else in the country will be sending a similar card!
____ That’s not all that’s unique at the market. Holiday shoppers can find outdoor glass lawn ornaments, beautiful pastels, lots of handmade jewelry, children’s cloth books, an array of tempting treats from Castle Creek Farm and much more.
____ The Maple Shade Barn, located at 35 Greenbrier Lane, opens its market for the holiday season each year after the outdoor Farmer’s Market closes. It is open every Saturday through Dec. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Crafters, artists and food purveyors take over the ground floor of the historic Maple Shade Barn, offering Christmas shoppers some unique items for both adults and children. The barn, located at 35 Greenbrier Lane, will be open every Saturday through Dec. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Brush fire spreads throughout corn field

On left, flames seem to be licking the boots of Franklintown firefighter Ted Baker as he puts out hot spots, but the fire is actually several feet in front of him, further away than it appears. The brush fire, below, spread the whole length of the cornfield.

____ A brush fire broke out on Hidden Creek Road, Franklin Township, at 11:07 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22.
____ The fire spread throughout a corn field and was under control within an hour.  No injuries were reported.
____ Franklintown, Monaghan, Wellsville, Lake Meade and Dover Township fire companies along with fire police and Northern York Regional Police were on the scene.

Chiminey sweep scam

____ Several residents of Northern York County have reported suspicious and threatening phone calls regarding chimney cleaning services. Apparently, an unknown individual has contacted local residents, identifying himself as a fire company member offering to clean the homeowner's chimney. When the homeowner turns down the offer, conversations have threatened imposing future fines, should there be a chimney fire.
____ Ed McCoy, Assistant Fire Chief with Dillsburg Citizens Hose Fire Company, wants to assure the public that the volunteer fire companies do not offer chimney cleaning services and encourages anyone who recieves such a phone call to take a name and contact number of the caller, if possible. This information could help identify imposters portraying themselves as firefighters, by residents turning the information over to their local police departments.
____ Karen Deibler, Dillsburg Borough manager said the caller is telling residents it is the law to get the chimneys cleaned, and that if they do not, the fire company will not respond to their home in case of a fire. There is no such law. “It’s a scare tactic,” Deibler said. “It’s just mean, especially to older people.”
____ Carroll Township Police Chief Thomas Wargo is advising residents to call 911 and get a license plate number if the scammers come to their house.
