____ An 8-year-old boy who was missing for about two hours last Tuesday in Carroll Twp. was found unharmed after a large police search.
____ "We were concerned for the boy because of the heat, which was hovering just under 90 degrees as of 3:30 p.m., but the boy was not considered to be at high risk of coming to harm," said Carroll Township Sgt. David Smith. "The boy had been reported walking along West Siddonsburg Road dragging a suitcase behind him."
____ A staging area was set up at the Monaghan Fire Station. Smith notified the York County Sheriff Department K-9 Unit Sgt. Sam Shipley, the Red Cross, York County C.A.R.E. (Child Abduction Response Effort) Team and State Police. Immediately the search began by patrolmen walking on foot along Siddonsburg Road with York County Sheriff K-9 handler Sam Shipley and K-9 dog, Lou. State Police searched from the air. Carroll Township patrol cars searched all the area roads.
____ The boy was found in less than two hours, a little more than three miles from his home on Chestnut Grove Road. EMS checked the boy out as a precaution and appeared to be fine.
____ Later in the day the boy and his father made a special trip to the police station. "They brought us some pastries and a apology letter," Smith said. "We are just glad this had a happy ending and want to thank everyone for the quick response in searching for this boy."
Ally Moyer, right, and her sister, Erin, participate in Relay for Life.
____ When a sea of luminarias light up the track at Bostic Field Friday night, the words of Ally Moyer will bring hope to those who honor loved ones lost to cancer and those whose fight still rages.
____ Ally, whose mother Joan Reeder Moyer grew up in Dillsburg with her seven brothers and sisters, is the honorary survivor chosen to speak at this year’s local Relay for Life, the 10th year that the Dillsburg community has come together in its fight against cancer.
____ The event is this Friday and Saturday at Bostic Field across from Northern High School.
____ “I want to give a message of determination and optimism. Keep believing and everything will be OK,” said Ally, 21, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in 2009 when she was a junior at Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School. “Attitude has a lot to do with it.”
____ From the moment a swollen lymph node in her neck alerted her that something was wrong, Ally said she determined that a diagnosis of cancer was not going to rule her last years of high school.

____ The development will sit on more than 32 acres with access to South Baltimore and Gettysburg Streets. In addition to the two and three story dwellings, the plan also includes a community center.
____ During the meeting, Tom Scully of Alpha Consulting Engineers presented the plan to the council. He identified the public and private streets in the development and explained how the plan will be completed in four phases.
____ The developers will construct 30 units in phase one and 28 units in phase two.

Beautiful rock formations destroyed by vandals.
____ We stood there shaking our heads, asking how some disgusting, unscrupulous individuals could turn what had been a beautiful outcropping into an eyesore.
____ I had taken what I later called a “short cut” to a state park we often visit. I thought we knew every dirt road and trail in the area, but I was wrong. The rough road, actually more like dirt with ditches created by recent rains, reminded me why the stream we had paralleled in the valley below was still off color. With no agriculture in the immediate area, it had to come from this mountain ridge.
____ We had taken a road that is just outside of Mount Holly Springs and followed Mountain Creek until it made a sharp right hand turn to scale the mountain. It would have been far easier to drive to Pine Furnace State Park and take Cold Springs Road to turn right on Ridge Road.
____ Dirt, eventually turned to gravel not long after seeing the state forest sign, and then back to dirt again. I tried to see the forest improvements and did see areas where new saplings grew, row like. We also saw the forest floor filled with ferns.
____ Michaux State Forest encompasses more than 85,500 acres in the South Mountain area of Cumberland, Franklin and Adams counties. Considered Pennsylvania's "cradle of forestry," Michaux is the site of first forestry school, Mont Alto. The forest is named for the French botanist, Andre Michaux, who discovered and named many plants in the 18th century.

____ There was no hiding it for Northern baseball coach Brian Robison.
____ He expected, and demanded, a better season for the Polar Bears than the 2013 campaign which saw Northern stumble to a 10-10 record.
____ What Robison got from his ballclub, a District 3-AAA championship to go along with a 19-6 record, was beyond even what the long-time coach thought this year's group was capable of.
____ "It's unbelievable to see how a group of guys can come together as a whole to take their game to the next level," Robison said. "Individually we didn't have too many superstars, but collectively we were able to get it done in the last third of the season.
____ "It was an unbelievable run and a testament to what can happen when kids start playing well and believing in each other."

____ Northern York Fastpitch Association teams are continuing to improve as the season progresses.
____ Jeff MacKay's 10U Major squad is no exception.
____ MacKay's Polar Ice group had a busy week with five games in 11 days, but came out undefeated, posting a record of 4-0-1.
____ The Polar Ice defeated the Hellam Warriors 13-0 on May 28, won 15-5 over the Dover Eagles on May 31, knocked off the SYC Warriors 7-3 on June 2, beat the Hellam Warriors 14-9 in a rematch on June 5 and forged a 2-2 tie with the Stewartstown Fireballs on June 7.
