Wellsville women helps to apprehend bank robber
Quick action of a Dillsburg woman helped police capture a bank robber and put him behind bars Thursday morning.

By Marie Chomicki

____
Quick action of a Dillsburg woman helped police capture a bank robber and put him behind bars Thursday morning.
____ Tina Gleim was filling out paperwork inside the PNC Bank, Rossville around 9 a.m. As she was walking out the door, she noticed a teller "visibly shaking" saying "I was just robbed".
____ Looking outside, Gleim caught a glimpse of the robber across the street (Route 177) trotting at a brisk pace beside the Lions Club building.
____ Gleim sprung into action, jumped into her Chevy S10 pickup truck and gave chase. As she was leaving the parking lot, she spotted him pulling out from behind the building in an SUV.
____ In attempts to stop the SUV, Gleim patched out across the highway and slammed her truck head on into the driver's side front quarter panel, wedging the SUV against a telephone pole.
____ Gleim blocked the driveway with her truck, but the robber managed to back up his SUV, go out another driveway and head across the street "tires spinning" into the PNC Bank parking lot toward the gas station.
____ Not to be thwarted, Gleim jumped out and waved down other drivers to help in her quest to stop the robber. " A few did help," she said.
____ As it turned out the robber's SUV was pretty much disabled and he did not get too far, Gleim said. One wheel was dragging sideways and the bumper missing.
____ Gleim said the driver ditched the SUV on Old York Road about a quarter of a mile from the gas station, in the direction of Dillsburg, and fled on foot.
____ Pennsylvania State Police with the assistance of Northern Regional, Fairview Township and Carroll Township police departments and PSP aviation, were able to set up a perimeter around the wooded area where the accused fled. Without incident he was apprehended at 10:30 a.m. in the location of Yeager and Lisburn roads.
____ PSP arrested Alexis Laskowski, 38, of Mt. Holly Springs at 10: 46 a.m. for attempting to rob the PNC Bank, 3405 Rosstown Road, Rossville. Police said the accused entered the bank and demanded money but displayed no weapon. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, Laskowski fled on foot towards the Lions Club parking lot where he had staged his getaway vehicle.
____ While the State Police praise the courage of the citizen who got involved, we strongly discourage anybody from putting themselves into harm’s way and taking such action. We encourage people to dial 911 and allow law enforcement to respond to take appropriate action.

The robber's first attempt to escape from behind the Lions Club building across from the PNC Bank was

stopped by a Wellsville woman who rammed her truck into his SUV and into the telephone pole above.

WARRINGTON TOWNSHIP

Several road improvements considered
By Carolyn Hoffman

____ Warrington Township supervisors identified road projects for the current construction season at their recent spring road inspection. Lisburn Road from Carroll Street to Yeager Road, a distance of 1.7 miles, is planned as a bid project, as is one on Red Rock Avenue.
____ Mt. Zion Road from Cabin Hollow Road to Old Mountain Road is slated to get a double seal coat, while old Mountain Road to Ridge Road will get a single seal coat. The top 3,000 ft. of Roundtop Road were also found to need repair and paving.
____ Supervisors are also looking into the idea of building “something” under the bridge deck on Beaver Creek Road in an effort to redo the bridge without removing it. A water problem along Twin Lakes Road will be repaired by the township road crew. Pothole patching on township roads began on April 16.
____ In other business at the April 16 session, supervisors discussed the possibility of suspending or eliminating the $5 per capita tax but will take no action until a cost-benefit study is completed. A concern is that the tax might cost more to collect than the revenue it provides. Supervisors approved per capita tax exonerations for three students.
____ In cases of a lockdown at any of the nearby schools, supervisors want to be notified by the school district, if the district initiates the lockdown.
