____“When I tell someone that I'm a funeral director, they usually blink and say, 'But you don't really touch the bodies do you?' And I say, 'Yes, I do.' I wouldn't say their initial reaction is negative. It's more of a surprise to them. Then, they say, 'But, you're so happy.' I really don't understand what that has to do with anything. Also, there's a surprising number of people that also say I wanted to do that or I thought about doing that, and then they tell me about someone they know who just died and what happened. I listen to their stories with compassion.”
____Rachel Rose Marie Dwyer was born at Holy Spirit Hospital on May 5, 1986. The first born of parents Darlene and Dennis Dwyer. Rachel's earliest memory was the day her sister was born. Rachel was sick and staying at her grandmother's house. “I also remember in kindergarten we were supposed to count to 100, but I didn't know the numbers past 30. My mom stopped at thirty. That night I had to learn from 31 to 100.
____From oldest to youngest, the children are three years apart. Today, Rachel is 27, Casey, 25, and Sara, 24. Rachel remembers they all shared a room for a while, and then sister Sara and Rachel shared a bedroom until they couldn't live together which was probably around sixth grade. “Growing up with my brother and sister, it seemed like they were always on the same team just because I was the oldest. We could never play board games together because we would fight. Casey would refuse to do what he was supposed to do, and Sara would just get mad and quit playing. Their mother was a stay-at-home mom. “We were pretty isolated up here on the mountain,” said Rachel. “We just played outdoors.” They also did a lot of arts and crafts type of things when they were younger. The sisters and brother were very close. In fact, all three were in high school at the same time.
