Former Franklintown Borough employee turns herself in
By Peggie Williams

____Former Franklintown Borough secretary/treasurer Deborah Walker turned herself in on May 29 to face three charges involving the disappearance of over $120,000 from the borough’s accounts over a several year period. ____According to court documents, she’s been charged with theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception and receiving stolen property. She was arraigned the same day in front of District Judge Richard Thomas in Dillsburg. She is free on $50,000 unsecured bail and awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 15.
____The alleged theft took place from 2007- 2010, the years just before Walker retired in December of 2010. The funds showed up missing during a financial audit for the year 2007 that was done in late 2010. Walker covered the alleged thefts by not paying the borough’s bills including the federal employee taxes.
____Over a year ago, the funds that were allegedly stolen were reimbursed to the borough by the insurance company that bonded Walker, indicating that they believed she was responsible, but the York County’s District Attorney’s office just finished their investigation.
