____
The Ace fix-it Hardware store in Dillsburg, located at 159 South Baltimore St., will celebrate its fifth anniversary Saturday, Jan. 19. The celebration will run 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and will include in-house specials, sale items and a grand prize drawing for a $100 store gift card.
____ The Ace fix-it Hardware family of stores began operations 28 years ago through owner Charles Bickel. A small hardware store was purchased in Duncansville, Blair County, and became the first location of the Ace fix-it Hardware family. There are now a total of eight Ace fix-it Hardware stores in Pennsylvania. Some locations were already hardware stores looking to change ownership, but others were converted from completely different businesses: The store in Huntingdon was a former steakhouse, while the store in Cheswick was a former movie theater.
____ "[About five years ago,] we were looking to add another neighborhood store to our fix-it family,” said Bickel. They wanted a store similar in size to their other locations, and the former M&W Hardware store in Dillsburg fit the bill. The store was converted into an Ace fix-it Hardware that today employs eight to 10 people and houses about 14,000 products for all types of hardware, lawn and garden, painting, electrical and plumbing and heating needs.

The event begins at 10 a.m. and will take place at the pond at Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg, just off of the Winding Hill Road/Cumberland Parkway exit on Route 15.
____ The Polar Bear Plunge might seem simple - a crowd of 30-50 participants, some sporting costumes, jump in the pond and swim around for a bit - but the message is much deeper. Participants are asked to consider raising money via pledges or make a donation to the Polar Bear Foundation.
____ The Polar Bear Foundation helps to financially support academic, athletic and artistic programs within the Northern York County School District. Monetary contributions made through the foundation have recently helped many projects within the district, including providing science kits for elementary school students, creating tutoring programs, improving the facilities used by the track team and funding scholarships for district students to attend the Capital Area School for the Arts, among other educational programs.
