Supervisors table loan needed for traffic signal
By Peggie Williams
____Carroll Township supervisors tabled a resolution that would commit them to a $105,000 loan to move along the installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Route 74 and Campground/Spring Lane Roads.
____“I don’t see a need for that signal now that we don’t have any large commercial developments coming in," said Paul Walters, chairman of the board .
____Although a motion on the action was made to open the subject for discussion, the motion was tabled when Bruce Trostle and Walters both voted no, but the other three supervisors refused to voice a vote.
____The project is ready to be done this summer, but the township needs to fulfill its agreement to get the utility poles moved. Township Manager Connie Flasher said the pressure was on from PennDOT to get it done or the nearly $1 million they had allocated for the project would be placed elsewhere and might not be made available again for several years.

Weight limit lowered on bridge
Northern School District to re-route buses
By Peggie Williams

Erosion of the concrete support has compromised the structural integrity of the bridge and is the cause for the its failure to meet PennDOT’s inspection. The bridge was given a rating of “0” last month.
____The weight limit on the Spring Lane Road bridge over Dogwood Run has been lowered to 5 tons in an effort to avert closing the bridge entirely.
____Last fall, an inspection by York County showed the bridge was in bad condition, with inspectors giving it the second to worst rating of 1. But when township engineer Steve Barber and a structural engineer from Pennoni Associates inspected the bridge in the end of March to estimate the cost of repairs, they felt the bridge was in even worse condition and called the county inspector back out. He agreed and downgraded the bridge to a rating of 0.
