A new set of stop signs were installed last Friday on Siddonsburg Road at the Chestnut Grove Road intersection. Requests to the township by the Lehman family, who live in the white farm house above, were forwarded to PennDOT last summer. A subsequent traffic study in September led to the recommedation for a four-way stop
Warning signs on Siddonsburg Road are installed 100 feet from the Chestnut Grove intersection to warn drivers of the new four-way stop.

____A new set of stop signs installed last Friday on Siddonsburg Road at Chestnut Grove Road is catching motorists off guard. Some residents have reportedly either flown through the stop signs or nearly been rear-ended when they stopped, claiming the standard warning signs placed 100 feet ahead of the intersection were not enough warning for the new traffic control.
____Township officials were unaware of the exact date the new signage would be installed, although they knew it was on PennDOT’s work list. Carroll Township secretary Faye Romberger said the township has nothing to do with the signage on Siddonsburg Road. “That’s all up to the state,” she said. The stops signs on Chestnut Grove Road are the responsibility of the township and have been in place for decades.
____In July 2011, Catherine Lehman came before the board asking for their support to have something done at the intersection of Siddonsburg and Chestnut Grove Roads. Lehman and her husband live in the 1850s farmhouse on that corner and are tired of having their property damaged in the frequent accidents that occur there. Lehman said her house had been hit three times in the last 14 months and the last time there was major structural damage.
____The township agreed to send the letter to PennDOT, which owns Siddonsburg Road, asking for a traffic study, which was conducted last September. The study led to a recommendation for a four-way stop sign at that intersection. In November, the township had to pass an amendment to their traffic ordinance to allow for the change. After that it was up to PennDOT.
____After the study, Lehman received a letter from PennDOT indicating the intersection was on the "to-do" list, so she was pleasantly surprised they completed the project so quickly.
____Lehman said her family and neighbors have a sense of relief now that the four-way stop is in place. "I feel more comfortable and safe,” she said.

Commission shuffles meeting for Dollar General
By Carolyn Hoffman
____Wellsville Planning Commission will meet March 1 at 7 p.m. in the borough office on Main Street. The proposed Dollar General store near Doe Run is on the agenda, as well as a request from the borough council to provide comments about the proposed Warrington Township zoning changes.
____The planning commission had tentatively planned to meet again in April, when all outstanding approvals for the proposed store would likely be in hand and action on the plan could be taken. However, Warrington Township has asked the borough to comment on its planned zoning changes before its March 7 public hearing, so a planning commission meeting was scheduled earlier than originally expected. If the approvals for the Dollar General store are received in time for this meeting, action on that subdivision is possible at this session as well.

Warrington Twp. approves Roundtop renovation
By Carolyn Hoffman
____Roundtop Mountain Resort received approval from Warrington Township supervisors on Feb.15 to pave the tubing parking lot and put in a maze feature at their ropes course.
____The nearly four-acre parking lot will include grassy areas between the parking lanes that amount to nearly an acre, so drainage should not differ from the current, fully compacted stone lot, according to Warrington’s engineer.
____The new maze feature will be snap-together plastic pieces that can be reconfigured to create different mazes.

Teacher Brian Wilson, above, was taped to an upright table as part of a fundraising effort at the Northern High School.
Hard to see behind all the tape in the picture below is the winning teacher, Marc Anderson.
____On Thursday, the Northern High School Polar-Thon had a contest during the fifth-, sixth- and seventh-period lunch breaks. Three teachers, Chad Mowery, Brian Wilson and Marc Anderson, volunteered to be taped to a table standing upright against the wall in the cafeteria. Mowery's group collected $50, Wilson's collected $94 and, despite being the fewest in participants, Anderson's group collected $131 for the Four Diamonds Fund.

NHS to present musical

Cinderella is played by Jeanine Webb.
____Experience one of the best fairy-tale “mash-ups” around as Northern High School students present “Into the Woods.” Slated for March 2 and 3 at 7 p.m. and March 4 at 3 p.m., “Into the Woods” is co-directed by Connie Bleiler and Laura Bissell, with instrumental music directed by Jeremy Leidhecker and choreography directed by Sharon Gochenauer.
____A Tony Award-winning success on Broadway, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s “Into the Woods” interweaves the plots of several favorite fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, including "Little Red Riding Hood," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Rapunzel" and "Cinderella," all brought together by the Baker (possibly of "the butcher, the baker and the candlestick-maker" fame) and his wife in their quest to start a family. Toss in a giant or two, a witch with a surprising secret, assorted other storybook characters and “Into the Woods” takes the characters through a series of unusual events as they pursue their wishes and dreams.
____In addition to the weekend performances, a special fundraiser for preschoolers/families and those young at heart will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, in the high school cafeteria. “FairyTale Festival” will feature a Storybook Café, The Baker’s Bakeshop, Masquerade Ball, Forest Maze, Once Upon a Time Reading Corner and Kingdom Crafts. Kids and their families are invited to attend in their favorite fairy-tale attire for a chance to win prizes, and costumed cast and crew will be out in full force to interact with and serve the guests. Vibrant community support for this fundraiser will greatly encourage the musical cast, as the show’s entire production budget is funded solely through patron ads and ticket sales.
