A gathering of about 300 onlookers greet Santa Claus as he and Mrs. Claus joined the Dillsburg tree-lighting festivities at the square on Friday, Dec. 2.
____ Santa Claus came to town for Dillsburg’s Christmas tree lighting on Friday, Dec. 2.
Sponsored by the Dillsburg Area Business Association (DABA), the annual event brings the community together to officially kickoff the holiday season.
____ About 300 onlookers greeted the season in the town square for a night of festivities. Northern’s Bear Singers welcomed the crowd with carols. Matt Zook and Sarah Glace, both juniors at the high school, were glad their group got to join in the Yuletide spirit.
____ “Music is a gift and we always like to share the gift with everyone,” said Zook.
____ “It’s fun and it’s always nice to see the little kids smiling and having a good time whenever we sing before Santa comes out,” said Glace.

This aerial view shows Route 15 at the intersection of Scotch Pine Road in Franklin Township.
___A half dozen residents attended the informational meeting regarding the closure of the intersection of Route 15 and the east side of Scotch Pine Road in Franklin Township. While no one had any particular objection to closing Scotch Pine, some expressed concern about the cumulative effect of closing both that road and Hickory Road east before improvements were in place at the intersections that would pick up the extra traffic.
___Alan Hoffman suggested that deceleration and acceleration lanes be added to Franklin Church and Clear Spring roads before any more pressure were added to them.
___“They barely handle what they’ve got now,” he said.
___Art Bert agreed, adding, “As things pile up [at those intersections], people will get restless and take more chances.”
___Everyone agreed that might be counterproductive to the purpose for closing the intersections in the first place.
___A joint study involving York and Adams counties conducted more than two years ago resulted in recommendations for immediate, intermediate and long-term changes to improve the safety of Route 15. Among the immediate changes were the closing of intersections on the east side Hickory and Scotch Pine roads, which would decrease the potential “contact points” where accidents might happen.
___Wayne Kober, who has been Franklin Township’s representative on this issue, said he saw the merit in what was being suggested. As a former PennDOT planner, he saw the possibility of doing the engineering at all four intersections at the same time.

Shillito Owner: More to story of company's bankruptcy
By Jeffrey B. Roth
___On Monday, Raymond Klix, of Dillsburg, the owner of Shillito Oil Distribution Company, said there are details about why the company was forced to seek bankruptcy protection.
___Difficulty in contacting Klix throughout the last few month lead many to believe that he had left the area. However, according to Klix, he still lives in the area and did not skip town. Klix confirmed that the paperwork for filing for bankruptcy is being completed by his attorney, Michael Trimmer, of Dillsburg. The actual petition has not yet been filed with the federal bankruptcy court.
___Some customers of the heating fuel company have contacted the office of state Rep. Scott Perry, upon learning that after paying for one or two installments on a budget plan during June and July, they were not going to get an oil delivery or a refund. About 40 customers were involved in the budget plan, Klix said.
___Klix said that all of the details of regarding the company's financial situation have not been revealed to the public. In essence, he said, there were situations out of his control that affected the company's financial picture.
