Ice’s talent part of the competition was a performance of a poem inspired by Dr. Seuss as her “World Changer” the theme of this year’s pageant.

_---Dillsburg kicked off the 96th annual Farmers Fair celebration in the Community Memorial Hall on Tuesday, October 11. Local residents gathered to showcase their harvest and home-made goods and to witness the crowning of this year’s Senior King and Queen, Lynn and Joan Potts.
_---Northern High School coordinated the first annual Farmers Day in 1905, a time when one-third of Dillsburg’s population were farmers. For one day a year, locals gathered their harvest in the town square, and networked with local markets. After a short hiatus during WWII, the town resurrected the celebration as “Farmers Fair,” and extended the festivities to incorporate a tractor show, craft show, two parades, and numerous outdoor competitions. The Potts reflect on past fairs fondly. Moving to Dillsburg in 1950, they quickly became a staple of the community. Lynn served as chair of the Farmers Fair committee numerous times in the 1960s, and knows first-hand the work necessary to organize the fair, and the importance of community involvement, having personally entered a float in the Fantastic Parade on occasion. Due to their many years of commitment to the community, the Farmers Fair committee chose the Potts for this year’s award, which Lynn and Joan received with humility by thanking the Farmers Fair Committee for their collective effort, year after year. “They are the ones who deserve this honor,” Lynn told the crowd.

Joan and Lynn Potts were honored as the 2011 Farmers Fair Senior King and Queen during opening ceremonies at the Community Memorial Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The Dillsburg Kixx FC, coached by Kieth Munshower, Jonathan Williams and Jim Brubaker, took first place in the Girls U13 Age Championship bracket of the 19th Annual Dillsburg Dual Shootout held over the weekend.
“We have played together as a team since U-9,” Munshower said. “And some have even been playing together since age five.” The Kixx FC played three games to determine their seeding among 24 other teams. By Joe Guty

Elijah Locke carries the ball for a touchdown in the Polar Bear’s 40-13 victory over James Buchanan on Friday evening. Locke scored two touchdowns for the Bears totaling 10 this season.

_Shippensburg brings a 6-0 record into Dillsburg on Farmers Fair weekend and the Polar Bears are ready to spoil the Greyhounds’ party. After making the long trek to reach Mercersburg, PA last week, the Polar Bears thrashed James Buchanan 40-13 to even the Dillsburg gridders' record to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Mid Penn Colonial. The Rockets fell to 1-4, 0-3.
_James Buchanan made matters interesting as they recovered a Northern fumble on the second play of the game. Three plays later, the Rockets scored on a 20-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Thomas Quivers to Dylan McKissick. The Bears answered back as Alex Dale threw a screen pass to Dom Salomone which was good for 25 yards. Elijah Locke took a pitch out on the next play for a six yard touchdown. Zaac Thomas' extra point was wide left but he would have other opportunities.
_Northern's defense, led by Heath Rupp on the next series, set the offense up for another score as Salomone found the end zone on a 37 yard run. Although the two point conversion failed, Northern took a 12-7 lead. A Northern interception late in the first quarter resulted in a quick four play drive highlighted by Travis Saylor's 29-yard catch and Elijah Locke's 35-yard touchdown run at :35.5.
