Increased school safety measures bump tax rate
A decade ago, school officials across the country were debating how to improve student achievement in mathematics, writing and reading comprehension.
Now, a paramount concern is improving school safety.
In the aftermath of several deadly school shootings across the nation earlier this year, Northern York County School District is focusing on convrete ways to ensure students a safe place to learn.
The costs of these efforts are reflected in the 2018-2019 academic year budget, which the school board passed unanimously on June 28.
Cafe destroyed by fire
Cafe Uovo will remain closed until further notice following a fire that broke out Saturday night, July 14.
Crews were dispatched just before 8 p.m., according to Camp Hill Fire Chief Mark Simpson.
The resturant and a second floor apartment were unoccupied at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire is not considered suspicious and is under investigation. There is no damage estimate at this time.

Susquehanna Folk Festival to be held at Roundtop Mountain Resort July 28 and 29
Music legends David Bromberg and Rory Block will be reutrning to central Pennsylvania with a host of other acoustic music stars as part of the massive Susquehanna Folk Festival. The first annual two-day "cultural explosion" event happens July 28 and 29 at Roundtop Mountain Resort in Lewisberry. Advance tickets are on sale now at www.JulyFolkFest.org.
Bromberg is an eclectic artist, playing a mixture of bluegrass, blues, folk, jazz and more. Known for his quirky, humourous lyrics, and the ability to play rhythm and lead guitar at the same time, he has collaborated with Willie Nelson, Jerry Garcia and Bob Dylan. He co-wrote then song "The Holdup" with Beatle. George Harrison, who played on Bromberg's self-titled 1972 album.

- 10U Polar Elite go 5-0, win Forest Hill Frenzy
It's been a winning summer for Northern York Fastpitch Association, and the fun isn't quite over just yet.
The NYFA added another piece of hardware to its expanding tropy case last weekend with the 10U Polar Elite going 5-0 to win the FOrest HIll Frenzy tournament. NYFA proved it could win the close ones taking victory in three games that were decided by a total of six runs.
In the game that mattered most, the championship tilt, NYFA's young ladies flexed their collective muscle to defeat Lakeshore Lightning by a 13-0 score.

Winning start for DYB at Calrence Boyd Tourney

So far, so good for Dillsburg Youth Baseball.
DYB's three Clarence Boyd Tournament teams -- 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12 -- were all undefeated when the Banner reaches its press deadline.
The 7-8 squad, led by manager Mike Strayer, have roared out of the gates in pool play with a 2-0 record, defeating opponents by a combined 20-2 score.
