Gov. Wolf signs Clean Slate Bill

Last week, Govenor Tom Wolf was joined by Representative Sheryl Delozier, Senator Anthony Williams, Representative Jordan Harris and many stakeholder and advocacy groups for the signing of House Bill 1419, the “Clean Slate” bill. The first of its kind in the nation, the bill was co-sponsored by Reps. Delozier and Harris; Sen. Williams sponsored the Senate version of the bill.
“I am proud to sign this legislation, which will make it easier for those who have interacted with the justice system to reduce the stigma they face when looking for employment and housing,” Gov. Wolf said. “Clean Slate passed in an overwhelmingly bi-partisan manner and I want to thank the General Assembly and the many advocates and stakeholders who made this possible.”
“I’m honored to have authored this law, which had almost unanimous support of both Republicans and Democrats in both chambers of the General Assembly,” Delozier said. “People who have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to minor misdemeanors many years ago deserve a second chance. They have shown that they have reformed their lives, and this barrier to employment and housing needs to be removed.”
“With enactment of this clean slate legislation, citizens who have paid their debt to society and proven their rehabilitation can truly re-integrate into their communities,” Williams said. “I look forward to welcoming these returning citizens to our workplaces and neighborhoods.”

Dillsburg teeners claim West Shore title
By Andy Sandrick
On the first day of the Greater West Shore Teener League season, Dillsburg held a team meeting, with one of the coaches asking the players a simple question: Have you ever won a championship?
The boys replied that they had not, but one outspoken player had something to say.
"Let's win a championship!" Ethan Fringer excitedly told his teammates.
What followed for Fringer and Co. was an 11-1-2 campaign which saw the team outscore the competition 164-40 and win the regular-season championship in the GWSTL's American Junior Division. Dillsburg, sponsored by Miller's Auto, wasn't done. The team rolled through the playoffs and claimed the championship by defeating Cedar Cliff No. 2 and Cedar Cliff No. 1 by identical 7-5 scores.
"There was excitment on the first day of the season and excitement at the end," Dillsburg manager Jesse Middaugh said. "Some of those boys were just grinning from ear to ear. This was the first championship team they've been on."
It was a season of improvement for Middaugh's boys, who were led offensively by Drew Weaver (.586 batting average, 17 for 29, 14 stolen bases, .657 on-base percentage), Andrew Wolf (.543, 19 for 35, 2 doubles, 3 triples, home run, 26 runs, 15 stolen bases, .686 OBP), Josh Sullivan (.525, 21 for 40, 7 doubles, triple, 18 runs, 16 RBI), Colton Middaugh (.500, 19 for 38, 19 runs, 10 stolen bases, .604 OBP), Fringer (19 hits, 16 RBI), Alex Mann (16 runs, 16 RBI) and Dane Kurten (16 runs, .622 OBP).
"Yes, I saw some growth this year," Middaugh said. "These guys grew as a team and each individual player grew in their baseball skills and confidence. They handled themselves with composure on the field, win, lose or tie. They were a great team to coach."
Middaugh says he sees a bright future for his team - which also includes Aydan Digrugilliers, Andrew Hackart, Brandon Keeney, Wyatt Hazen and Sam Gunning - many of whom will be old enough to try out for Northern's junior varsity baseball team next season.
