Gettysburg St. project reaches halfway point
___ A long awaited project to do major repairs to Gettysburg Street in the Dillsburg Borough has reached the halfway point. The joint effort between the borough and Dillsburg Area Authority was started in late February and is expected to be finished in early October. The goal is to replace the waterlines under the street and then rebuild the street, curbs and sidewalks.
Borough Manager Karen Deibler said the finished project should look much like the improvements to Second Street in the vicinity of York Street that were done several years ago.
___“Right now Gettysburg Street is so slanted it’s hard to get in and out of a car,” said Deibler. “The road will be flat when the job is finished.”

Zero to Hero: Shumaker's Service Inc. claims DYB Minors crown
By Andy Sandrik
vvShumaker's Service Inc. began the Dillsburg Youth Baseball season with exactly zero wins in its first four games. But with 11 wins over the following 12 games, Kevin Barnett's ballclub is the Minors playoff champion of the DYB.
vSSI, the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, took care of business by defeating Kampel Enterprises Inc. 12-2 in the quarterfinals and State Farm 2-0 in the semifinals to set the stage for a finals matchup with the cinderella of the tournament: No. 8-seeded Lobar.
vWith just two wins and a last-place finish during the regular season, Lobar pulled off the stunner in the opening round by knocking off top-seeded Klein Dental 7-6 in extra innings. The team then outslugged No. 4 Dairy Queen 18-12 to earn a date with Shumaker's in the championship game.
vOnly one of the underdog teams could win the title, and SSI did just that, turning in a come-from-behind 7-5 victory over the surprising Lobar squad.
