By Marie Chomicki
___A Dillsburg couple was arrested Thursday, May 17, after police say they went on a crime spree in York and Cumberland counties.
Meagan Baker, 31, and Tyrie Miller, 33, both of Locust Point Road, began their caper just after midnight in Carlisle Borough by robbing the Carroll Motor Fuel store, 330 N. Hanover Street and then the Walnut Bottom Diner, 936 Walnut Bottom Road, South Middleton Township.
___The couple traveled to Mechanicsburg, hit the Turkey Hill on Simpson Ferry Road in Lower Allen Township, and proceeded to their last heist in Dillsburg Borough at the USA Gas Tobacco Shop, 303 North Baltimore St.

Crews work to repair the bridge on Chestnut Grove Road, Carroll Township, Wednesday May 23. The road was closed Tuesday and Wednesday, causing traffic to be rerouted, said Jim Smith, a resident who lives nearby.

PIAA State Meet next stop
By Joe Guty
vvEarning several medals and titles, Northern H.S. athletes excelled at last weekend's 94th Annual District III, Class AAA Track and Field Championships.
vvFour athletes also qualified for this weekend's PIAA State Championships slated again to convene at Shippensburg University on May25-26. In her trademark front running fashion, Marlee Starliper won her two specialty events - the 3200-Meter Run and the 1600-Meter Run. On Friday evening, May 18, the sophomore clocked 10:32.07 to win the longer distance race in windy conditions, five seconds clear of Chambersburg senior Abby Yourkavitch.
vvIn an unseasonably chilly and damp day the following afternoon, Starliper ran away from the 1600 field literally and figuratively to register a 4:46. 86. With a final lap in 69.4 seconds, she finished about 75 meters ahead of runner up Yourkavitch (4:54.52) and well clear of third-place finisher and defending state champ Taryn Parks, of Greencastle (4:58.18). Lap splits for Starliper: 69.3 / 75.0 / 73.0 / 69.4. Starliper's mark also broke the District III, Class AAA record of 4:50.23 set by Neely Spence.in 2008.
vv“I would have wanted to keep a bit more even pace and did not need to go out that fast, but I'm happy with how I closed,” said Starliper.

Nick Krall
By Joe Guty
Krall named Reds’ GM
vvNick Krall graduated from York Catholic H.S. but has relatives in the Dillsburg area. Many proud relatives.
vvKrall was recently named General Manager of the Major League Baseball Cincinnati Reds -- and the Dillsburg Banner was fortunate to interview him, as we have in the past. He has been in the Reds organization for 16 years, starting as a director of the team's advance scouting preparation. An LSU graduate at the collegiate level, Krall began his MLB career in 2001 as an intern, literally at the ground level with the Oakland A's organization and working with Billy Beane (see movie/book Moneyball). Krall was gracious and thoughtful in his responses despite his busy schedule in one of the key roles in MLB. Here are some excerpts from the Q & A:
In your new role, what is the most significant change in your responsibilities?
This new role will allow me to focus more globally on the entire baseball operations instead of being concentrated on only a few departments and dipping my foot in the waters of other departments.
