</span>The wrestling journey for Northern’s Jake Koser started when he was six years old. At that early age he and his brother, Kyle, were taking lessons in a sport that would later reward both of them.
Koser found success in tournaments through middle school and it did not take long before he was a starter for the varsity team.
</span>In 2017 Koser finished in fourth place at the PIAA State Wrestling Championships held at the Giant Center in Hershey. He then set a goal for the following year to win it all.
On Thursday, March 8, Koser sat in the stands at the Giant Center watching many matches before his bout for the PIAA State Wrestling Championships. Six matches were going on at the same time. Wrestling at the 195-lb. weight class was a long wait. He watched Polar Bear teammates Paul Feite and Micah Hoffman find success in the first round.

Northern claims three medals at PIAA Tournament
It might take years, decades, or maybe even a lifetime, for the Northern wrestling program to match the achievements of seniors Paul Feite, Micah Hoffman and Jake Koser, also known as "Team Trifecta."
The four-year captains, all 100-match winners, set the bar even higher at last weekend's PIAA 3A Championships, held at Hershey's Giant Center. Team Trifecta came away from states with three more medals.
Koser overcame a controversial first-round loss to claim third place, while Feite and Hoffman each took fourth. Northern, fueled by four pins, racked up 48 points to finish as District 3's top team. Nazareth rolled up 87 points to win the title over Cathedral Prep (73) and Bethlehem Catholic (68.5).
Strength in numbers for Bears

</span>With 33 student-athletes on the Northern H.S. Boys Tennis roster this year, records are already being set. In 28 years of coaching, Head Coach Lee Wilson said that it's the largest turnout ever.
“The group is working hard both inside the middle school gym (indoor practice nets/ball machine) and on the courts,” said Wilson earlier this week. “We were able to go outside four days last week and had a scrimmage with Littlestown on Saturday.”
Northern was slated to open the 2018 season against Dover on Monday, March 12 then travel to Carlisle on Tuesday and Redland on Thursday. This Friday, March 16, the Polar Bears are slated to host Gettysburg H.S.
“The ladder challenges are very close and the Varsity 7 and JV positions will be closely contested,” added Wilson.
